PE for Year 1 and Year 2 has got off to a great start. Here is what their new PE Teacher Mr Baynton has to say:

It's lovely to be writing to you as a new member of the CPS community. This year marks my third at BCCS and twelfth in Bristol working as a PE teacher. Originally from Southend in Essex, I studied for my degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Birmingham before completing my PGCE a few years later in Worcester. I have two girls, 7 and 4, who are proving to be perfect guinea pigs for trying out my PE ideas! Unsurprisingly for a PE teacher, I have a keen interest in competitive sport and still play in a local football league despite starting to feel the aches and pains more than I used to.

I'm really excited about working with your children this year and am very fortunate to have the opportunity to transfer my experience to working with younger children. I'm passionate about the importance of helping children develop their physical literacy. It is crucial that we nurture the confidence they have to move and control their bodies so that they can fully enjoy both the sporting and other physical activity opportunities they will encounter as they grow. We've had fantastic fun in the first few lessons of the term with Years 1 and 2 and I hope your children have been telling you about our work. We've started off looking at balancing in different ways and you could support your child by asking them to show you what they've been doing and see if you can practice with them!

Mr Baynton.
