PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education)

At Cathedral Primary School, we want children to be equipped with all the skills to be active members in their community, country and the wider world whilst also thriving individually. Through PSHE, they will develop skills to understand how to deal with unfamiliar situations or new challenges, be encouraged to develop mutual respect and celebrate differences. This also mirrors our school values: friendship, creativity, resilience, kindness, confidence

PSHE is taught through the “Jigsaw” programme and additional lessons are taught so that children receive a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.

The learning themes are: Being me in my world;  Celebrating difference; Dreams and goals; Healthy me; Relationships; Changing me.  These are whole school themes which children revisit annually in an age appropriate way.

The PSHE curriculum also includes the teaching of Relationships and Sex Education. This statutory element will help the children to develop safe and healthy relationships throughout their lives.  We encourage children to express their emotions appropriately, develop empathy and learn about the importance of looking after their physical and mental health.
