Early Years and Foundation Stage

As reception children progress through their first year of school children are assessed against the Early Years Curriculum. At the end of the year their achievement of the Early Learning Goals is reported to parents, the Local Authority and the DfE.

The assessment of Phonics at the end of Year 1

In Year 1, at the age of 6, the children’s progress in learning phonics is also checked by a national test. If children do not pass the Phonics Screening Test at the end of Year 1 they can retake it at the end of Year 2. The results of the phonics test are reported to parents, the Local Authority and the DfE.

The assessment of Reading, Writing and Maths in KS2

At the end of KS2 (Year 6) the children participate in Standard Assessment Tests. Teachers use the results from these tests, along with assessments and the work children complete throughout the year, to help inform their judgments about how children are progressing at the end of Key Stage 2. At the end of the year the results are reported to the Local Authority and the DfE.
