Our Curriculum 

Reading

Our book for Term 3 is Sam Wu is not afraid of the dark by Katie and Kevin Tsang. We will be learning to read with fluency and expression by 'echo reading' as a class. We will explore the characters, retrieve key details from the text and illustrations and write a summary of the book. We will also look at other text types with similar themes and make comparisons.

Promoting a love for reading...

Here are ways you can help to promote reading for pleasure:

 

Reading with your child for just 10 minutes a day can make an enormous difference to their enjoyment of reading

Sharing a variety of good quality texts together

Allowing time after reading to chat about the book

Visiting the library to choose new books

We will start with a 2 week unit on Formal Letters of Complaint. 

Followed by a three week unit on third person narrative.

Water bottles: Please bring a named water bottle into school each day.

Snack: Children should bring a piece of fruit to have during afternoon play. 

PE: Our weekly PE lesson is on Thursday afternoons. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kit and will stay in this all day.

Swimming: Our weekly swimming lessons will take place throughout Terms 5 & 6. 

Forest school: Year 3 will be heading up to Failand for Forest School in Term 3. 

Reading books: Please read at least 4 times a week if you can and record it in the children's reading records. Reading records and reading books should be in school every day.

Spellings: Our weekly spelling lists will now be posted on Spelling Shed on Mondays for children to practise at home.
